For this exercise I was restricted to my immediate locality. Horizontals in landscapes cause me no end of issues and it’s one I want to resolve albeit they can be the base for composition and also give a sense of scale as Michael Freeman also explains. Square fields with hedges cot off lead lines dead as shown in the top right hand image (jpeg2482). Horizontals can be used as bases and also in geometric design. The image of the track (jpeg) is a bit of a nod to Gursky who doesn’t strive to engage emotion in an image but to distance emotion and invites us to see everything as form and shape that is often geometrical.
